Christmas Gift

Roshi, my dog, has a sitter/day home. Yes, he is my baby and I'm spending money like he is my kid. Well, he is a puppy, and he's been developing well with a sitter so I think it's well worth it. Besides, he doesn't see her everyday anymore - just three times a week to burn off his energy in her yard, and gives me a break when I come home from work!

I'm very grateful of her to take him in. He was a wee pup when I found her. Since it's her home, she was willing to take a non-housetrained puppy, while watching other dogs and pets, and tending to three small children of her own - talk about Supermom!!!

So this Christmas, I made her a little gift. Nothing much, but a cute little sign with the name of her "company". Hope she likes it!

Connemara was a park that we went to in Ireland. It's not as grand as Banff, but it has its beautiful features. I hiked (by myself) up Diamond Hill in rain and wind. It was worth it for the photos. However, for "those" who didn't hike it also reaped the benefits of my photos.

Secret Santa 2011

It seems like every year I papercrafted something for my secret santa present for work. This year, I thought I will make an exception, because 1. I got a male to give a present to and 2. he doesn't seem like a guy who will appreciate handmade things. However, my present looked pretty pathetic: it was three giftcards to various fast food places near the office (he's known in the office to buy lunch daily). So, someone (not saying who) suggested that I should also print out nutritional facts from popular fast food places and binder it up as a present. Just to show him the health "benefits" of eating out daily. Sounds good, especially all the print outs and binder were from the office, and hence I didn't go over the secret santa budget of $25.

However, the white binder looked too plain and lifeless. So yes, I ended up papercrafting a cover for the binder. Sigh. I am amazed that it only took me four hours, (which included cleaning the huge mess I made in my dining room and also fighting my dog for my ruler) since I'm totally stuck on one of my layouts for over a week now! So here it is, ready for the Xmas party this weekend:

Staycation Productivity

This past week, I had a staycation in Calgary. It was wonderful. I did nothing. Since I was staying at my parents house, I didn't really have to clean, but only cook for myself since they were on their holidays. Anyways, one part of my staycation was scrapbook my Ireland trip. I spent like 4 hours packing up my craft stuff before driving down to Calgary and it was not wasted. I made THREE pages. Usually with work, I can only maybe do one page a week, and most of it is done over the weekend. I am so proud. They look pretty damn good too!

Yay, another Ireland scrapbook page done. Actually this one should have been done a lot quicker, but I slacked a lot. Everyday either when I get up in the morning or at work, i always have the motivation of "I can't wait to get home to scrapbook." However, when dinner's done, dishes washed, and the tv on, the couch just seemed to be calling. Once I plant my ass on my sweet couch, I root. Next thing I know, it's bedtime.

Anyways, this is my page on Bray. I loved Bray. Although we only spent an hour or so there, it was a very scenic seaside town. Also a bonus that I love the ocean!

Wow! It's been a long time since I posted on this blog. I did notice that the surfaces of my craft supply storage were getting a little dusty. Couldn't hit the papers when there're 1200 sq ft of space to maintain, raise a puppy, and plan a wedding. However, after realizing house maintenance is endless, puppy has more life than me, and wedding planning just sucks, I need to pick up my scrapbooking again. I am so far behind.

So I scrapped this page these last two weeks. I was just inspired to make it, so why waste the inspirations? It was fun. A bit here and there everyday and it's done. Yay.

Well. my 'cookie' isn't the most romantic kind of guy. If he can skip over Valentine's Day, he so would (in his dreams!) I am totally opposite. So to balance it out, I made him an atypical Valentine's Day card. Not too mushy and something fun. The best part, I got to use my Sesame Street Font Cricut cartridge (which I got on sale for $30 CAD during Christmas and thought it would go to waste since I had no clue what to do with Sesame Street). At work, we're having a Secret Santa gift exchange. So my gift is my own handmade 12x12 layout framed inside a display box. I'm glad my person was a girl, so the layout could be girly. If it was a boy, it will require some thought. Anyways, I have to say this is my best work ever. I guess the main reason is because it has a lot of 3D components. Usually I don't do it for a scrapbook layout since the book flattens out everything. Too bad I have to give it away. I really like it!

Lace Up Thank You Card

There has been some drama going on with my maid of honor dress. After I took my measurements, I saw the size chart she was using to put in my dress order. The dress she ordered for me had a waist-size 2 sizes too small. So I asked her, "Are you sure?!" She said since the dress is empire waist style, I don't have to worry.

When I went for my fitting after the dress came in, it didn't fit. It zipped up, but only if I was to stand all day and not breathe! Due to the dress style, not a lot of fabric can be 'let go'. Therefore, they have to change the zipper up to a lace up back. I was so pissed. To try to make it 'not as bad', the dress lady was saying it's the trend, it's more elegant, and a lot of girls like it.

I am not like 'a lot of girls'. I bought this $187 dress so that I can wear it more than once. Now with a lace up, it will be tougher. Plus, they were going to charge me $120 in alterations, but then discounted to $80. But my friend's mom (aka mother of the bride) helped me lower the alteration cost to $60, and offered to pay for my alterations. So therefore, I made a card for them. Obviously, its design is based on the dress.

Is there such a greeting? I was invited to Jing's bridal shower. Due to my stupid hotmail hack, I didn't get any notification until this week. These girls are so creative compare to me. They made it a 24h theme. Every invitee got an hour, and the invitee has to buy a present for Jing to use at this hour. I got 10 am. Since Jing's a teacher, 10 am = recess time. I really don't want to give the typical coffee mug. BORING. So to me, what can a teacher do (besides coffee) during recess? Initially, I wanted to get her a travel spa kit. It's a good way to do a short spa treatment while the kids are playing outside. However, they are very hard to find, unless you want to compile one together for $100+. No thanks! So while looking around, I found this: Love Handler by Bliss. Hahaha. I found this absolutely hilarious. I'm not saying Jing is fat and she needs this to reduce cellulite and any fatty appearance. The title and the idea of her using this during recess time are too funny. I love it! Jing is a person who can take a joke. Plus, you'll never know, she might one day use it. She does love chocolate. This may be able to get rid of the chocolate's 'side effects'. Hehe.

Here is the card I made along with the gift. Seriously, this card took me so fast. I never made a card and packed a present in 45 minutes! WOW! It's a pretty simple card. Quick and elegant - I like!

A Blog for my Creations

So I decided to make a new blog, one for just my creations. I noticed that from my other blog I am mixing too many of my life drama and creations. I would like to keep them separate. However, all are welcome to see both. As you can see, this blog for creativity is much more colorful than my other Crazie blog. I figured creativity should be happy and fun and not dark and gloomy.

I moved my previous creations over here. Therefore, all the creations that have an 'Original Post' on them were from the old blog. Thank goodness I didn't have that many. Haha. Just copying and pasting took me half the night!

June Swap

I still haven't sent out my May swap yet. I wanted to be a keener like last time and send out the next month's swap as well. However, I procrastinated until now. Nonetheless, they are done and ready to be sent out along with the May swap.

The theme for June's swap is 'Birthday'. For this theme, I wanted it to be fun. Therefore, I wanted the colors to clash as much as possible. As shown below, each card is different (only the swap host and whoever checks this blog out will know). One reason is because I was running low on a single color cardstock. The other is because I wanted to use up some leftover scraps - they were nice scraps too: Core'dination paper! All the mats were from my scrap paper box!

This one caught my eye the most. Hence, I chose it for the close up picture!

Ok, this is something I would have never made a year ago. I'm not a really cutsie person. I don't know what happened! I got this berry paper I really wanted to use. So what the heck?! It's my friend's birthday, and I think she would think this is cute! Cute cute cute, that's what most girls want, right?!

I usually like to add something different to my creations. For this one, I somehow 'discovered' a new way to use those Prima flowers that I went crazy buying! Can you find it? =)

Jing and Ken are snowboarders. Therefore, winter is a fun time for both of them, especially when the mountains are covered with the soft 'powder'. I can't say this was my best creation. It actually gave me a lot of trouble - especially the bow. I now know I am not the best bow maker! And yes, I made errors on it. Please don't try to look for them!

For this page, it's the annual Calgary Stampede event. I'm pretty sure both Jing and Ken remember those chips quite well. I didn't realize how odd the red (chip container) looked until all of it was put together. Sigh. Oh well, what's done is done. Something different I guess. I do love the Core'dination paper. The fence looks soooo good! It actually looks like wood!

It's not a wedding scrapbook without the 'ring'! Thanks to The Scrap Yard lady, I got some good ideas with this page: the Diamond Glaze and the red. However, I still feel like something is missing but not sure what though. I don't think I'll add anything more to it, unless it's small, but for now, I'll just leave it as is.

I really want to be ahead of the ball game, and therefore, I got May's card swap completed today! Woohoo. The theme for May is 'Patriotic'. I believe I'm the only Canadian on the swap. So why not give my American swappers a Canadian card. However, I have no idea what to do with the 10 American patriotic card that I will be receiving. Suggestions?

It's been a while since I last scrapbooked. I have just been in this rut with no ideas, but I really have to get going. I'm making a scrapbook for my friend, Jing, as a wedding present (July 2009). I really didn't want to get her a household item or contribute to a registry. So I figured a scrapbook is meaningful and something she would like (and she does, since I had to get pictures from her, she had to know!).

Due to the recession and lack of projects, I was laid off, and today was my last day of work. In a way I'm glad because there will be another round of stressing "Will it be me?" Now that's out of the way, I will have to plan out what I should do next.

I love my team. They were just a bunch of awesome people. I will miss them dearly. I made cards for those who were still around (contractors were gone a few months ago). So in total, 37 cards were made. I made them all within two nights. I seriously should consider a handmade card business.

Only 35 are shown here, because I already gave out two without taking the picture.

This was a challenge for me. This is my first card that I made for kids. My boyfriend's friend is throwing a little party for his precious twins' 2nd birthday. The gift was easy, but not the card! Good thing I bought some cute stamps recently. Although they are only 2 (and probably don't know what the card is for), a cute and kiddy card is still essential!

I really like this card. It's so elegant. It's initial purpose is for a wedding card, but then the more I look at it, it can also be used as a Christmas card (due to the bell). Therefore, I left out the sentiment and let my fellow swappers decide what they want to do with it. Before I could make 10 of these, my DS gave up cutting on me, and so I had to come up with another design for my remaining 6 cards.

Grandma passed away

My grandma's final arrangements are all dealt with. I recovered from my flu. But #3 will be ongoing until this recession is over.

January 19 is my professional engineering exam and SHEIST... I can't read those ethics books anymore. It's like eating cardboard... DRY. So instead, I took up a challenge on the Cricut Forum and made a card instead. The challenge is to make a monogram based card. I chose 'C' since my name starts with it. Also, since Valentine's Day is coming up, let's make another cheesy one. Can you read what it says? I'm somewhat not quite satisfied with the inside. Maybe one day I'll build more on it. For now... STUDYING!

Last last weekend, I spent some bonding time with my dad to install a closet organizer system for my closet and some wall shelves for me to put (or buy) more stuff in my room. Because of this, I was forced to clean my room and do some reorganizing! Besides throwing out some "you'll never catch me wearing this again" clothes, I also reorganized my papercrafting supplies. I stumbled upon these SU stamps that I got a while ago. I have never really used them. Somehow, I got this cheesy idea for a card: Seasons may change...

Before half of my coworkers left for their holidays, I decided to make them each a personalized gift. So last week, I made 44 of these boxes filled with a mini candy cane, a Lindt Lindor, and three Hershey Kisses. It took me 3 nights and 2 lunch hours. The response were great, which made the effort all worth it! Each box was made with 4"x8" card stock. There's four 'flavor' tags: reindeer, poinsettia, winter tree, and snowflakes.

They were then filled with goodies, and tied with a ribbon. On the ribbon, I added a little metal letter charm to personalize it (first letter of coworker's name).

The response from my coworkers were good. Therefore, all the hard work was worth it!

So my coworker called me up yesterday and requested two birthday cards, one for a pastor and the other to a friend and he needs it today. He gave me the following criteria:

For the two cards:

Cards must be big for a big group of people to sign
Cards must have some Christian theme/content

For the pastor, it can have either guitar or video games content, and for the friend, guitar or music content.

Since I had only 24 hours, I have to say I did quite well!

For the pastor:
Outside/Inside:

First of all, I went on the Internet and looked for a Mario face. It was actually quite difficult because most of them were side view, or not the right look. So, I found one from someone's blog:

Note: This head comes out to be about 2.5" wide and 3" high.

The first step is to print out two copies: one on skin colored card stock and the other on scrap. The skinned colored one will be the 'template' and the other one will be used for tracers. Since I was going for a "God" look, I had to omit the hat, and put some "Mario hair" on him. This was where the Cricut came in. I used "Paper Dolls Dress Up" Clown hair. I had a few trial and error attempts using Design Studio to get the hair to look right on the head. (For those who just want a Mario look, just keep the hat). However, the hair didn't quite cover all the black outlines, so I modified the picture a bit:

Mario has brown hair, and therefore, I cut out his sideburns, eyebrows, and mustache. They were then traced onto brown card stock. However, I think if you have a moon crescent shape on some cartridge, they will make good eyebrows... now that I think of it, I might have one on the Don Juan cartridge! (DOH!) These pieces were glued on first. Note: before gluing the mustache on, I colored in the mouth with a black marker.

Next were the eyes. My Cricut cartridges are limited, and I don't have any skewed oval shapes for the eyes. Thus, I had to trace and cut them out as well: the whites and the blue. I was lazy, and just drew in the black pupils with a nice black marker! These were glued on next.

Last is the nose. I also traced and cut.

I do suggest the trace and cut method. It's nice to get the perfect circles and ovals with the Cricut, but it takes forever to get the right proportions (i.e. hair).

Hope this helped a bit. If you find any improvements on the method, please inform me! I would like to make it a more user friendly paper craft.

House Warming Xmas Card

I posted this card on the Cricut message board, and someone asked for instructions. I'm too surprised. On that message board, I'm like an amateur compared to the rest of the card makers! Anyways, thanks for liking my card and here's a brief description of how I made it!

Base cardstock:

5.25" x 10.5" (so folds up to be a perfect square) - but it can be any size

Background paper:

5" x 5"

House:

Cricut's Don Juan cartridge (shift G)
Used 'Old Paper' distressed ink pad and yellow ink pad and just created some color on the house
Taped vellum on the back for window and door
For the snow, I just cut up some white cardstock and had it fit onto the roof. Make a slit to fit the chimney.
Wreath: cut out a small circle from dark green cardstock and used a green eyelet to attach circle onto house. Tie a small bow from red embroidery floss and glue gun onto wreath.
Lights: Use black embroidery floss and just loosely stitch onto house. Used red and green sticker gemstones for lights.

Tree:

I cut out green patterned paper into square pieces with the base about 1.25" x 1.25", mid-section 1" x 1", and 0.75" x 0.75"
Fold each piece as follows:

Fold in half "horizontal" and "vertical" and open (creates cross fold lines)
Fold diagonally both ways and open (create X fold lines)
Fold in the sides to make a triangle
Fold in (top) left and right sides of the triangle towards the middle

For the snow, I traced out the tree's section triangle and ripped out the bottle. Make sure the snow triangle is bigger than the tree's section. I just stuck this triangle into the tree's triangle
Stack up tree+snow sections.

Snowman:

Cricut's Doodlecharm cartridge (blackout and shift snowman)

Ground snow:

I just randomly cut fluffy shapes from white cardstock and fit it the way I want it to.

For all the snow, I used a colorless embossing marker to 'wet' the edges. I used 'Stamp N Stuff' Kaleidoscope embossing powder to have that snow reflective look.

Xmas Cards

So I already got my Xmas present from my boyfriend, and it's the popular Cricut (Create) Cutting Machine. Before, I was skeptical about it. First of all, it's expensive. The machine costs $399 and the additionaly cartridges cost $70+. The mat and the blades need to be replace and those cost moola. It's a nonstop investment. Being a somewhat an avid paper crafter, I justify not buying the machine by saying "I can seriously cut things with a pair of scissors, the way it has been done forever." Honestly, why I asked for it as a xmas present, I really have no idea.

Now that I own it, I can't do anything without it! I can't even cut a square without it (just kidding). I try to minimize the usage, so that I can preserve the blade and mat lives. Nonetheless, Christmas season is almost here, and I'll be having an early Xmas get together with my girlfriends soon. Perfect time to make some Xmas cards and experiment with this awesome machine!
